Blending fresh, spine-tingling harmonies since 2012.

Straight from the heart of England, Sunflower Thieves are a multi-instrumental singer-songwriting duo, who have been influenced by the likes of Bear’s Den, First Aid Kit and The Staves, emerging with their own unique sound.

Amy Illingworth and Lily Sturt-Bolshaw have been blending fresh harmonies since 2012. After 15 years of friendship, these two have a lot to say and boy do they know how to say it! With their close harmonies and heartfelt lyrics, Sunflower Thieves’ songs deserve your full attention.

In February 2017, Sunflower Thieves released their debut EP, ‘Hold The Storm’. The EP consists of four original songs, including ‘Spark’, the track on their first music video, released February 15th 2017. The video involves lots of people who have supported the girls, and shows beautiful shots of their hometown of Belper.

Friends since nursery school and growing up in musically able and interested families, Amy and Lily sang in local choirs together and both learned to play the piano. Amy also plays the flute, and Lily plays the trumpet. They were then both inspired to teach themselves how to play guitar and ukulele.

In 2015, a degree in Music Production took Lily to Leeds College of Music, whilst Amy completed a Songwriting and Performance course at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in Nottingham, and then a teaching job with the Derbyshire Music Partnership. Despite living in different cities, over the past two years, the girls have continued to write, perform and record, resulting in the release of ‘Hold The Storm’. By writing songs about their individual emotions and lives, collaborating on the musical arrangements and continuing to gig together, the two continue to bring out the best in each other’s abilities and ideas.

To coincide with the release of the EP, which features a full band sound, the duo have been joined by Tom Girling of Nottingham band Silver Wilson on drums, and Jamie Clarke on bass. Still punctuated by more intimate acoustic gigs, Sunflower Thieves toured this new sound, and have continued to gig at venues, festivals and events all together.
